THE EMERGENCE OF COMBINATIONS OF BEHAVIOR IN AN EQUIVALENCE CLASS WITHOUT EXPLICIT TRAINING OF A FUNCTION

Three experiments using undergraduate participants examined the emergence of responding in an equivalence class despite absence any functions being explicitly trained to stimulus within class. In Experiment 1, a one-to-many conditional discrimination procedure was used establish two three-member classes (A1, B1, C1 & A2, B2, C2) nonsense syllables. Participants were then presented with printed versions stimuli inside plastic boxes alongside box Lego pieces and asked respond as they felt appropriate. Results showed that placed on top by four out six participants; consistent occurred for one participant. 2, from 1 replicated same participants, but this time members (B1 C1) replaced images Blue Green respectively.
